The NexJ management team includes executive management, product development, technical, and professional services personnel with significant experience in the successful design and delivery of large-scale, distributed, business-critical systems.
The current version of the NexJ Application Framework is based on the tenth generation of the team’s technology, which has been deployed at some of the largest companies in the world.
Chief Executive Officer
As CEO at NexJ Systems Inc., William M. Tatham is responsible for directing NexJ Systems’ strategy and product and business development. Prior to establishing NexJ Systems in 2003, Mr. Tatham was the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Janna Systems, which he started in his basement in 1990 and sold 10 years later to his largest competitor, Siebel Systems, in a record value transaction for a Canadian software company. Janna was the world leader in enterprise Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software for financial services.
Mr. Tatham is a member of the Board of Elizabeth Arden (RDEN: NASQ), a global prestige beauty, fragrance, cosmetics, and skincare products company where he sits on the Audit committee.
He serves on the Board of Governors at the University of Waterloo and on the Entrepreneurial Advisory Board of the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. The University of Waterloo’s William M. Tatham Centre for Co-operative Education & Career Services is named in recognition of his support.
He is the Chair of the Technology, Innovation, and Equipment project for the “Embracing Health” Campaign for North York General Hospital. Previously, he was Vice-Chair and Chair of the North York General Hospital Quality Committee. He is a co-founder and member of the Board of the Canadian Association for People-Centred Health, a not-for-profit advocacy group for the reform of health care.
He is a member of the Board of Stewards for Open Health Tools, a global community of health professionals, developers, and jurisdictions dedicated to developing interoperable open source health software based on best practices. Mr. Tatham is the Honorary Co-Chair of the Building the Vision campaign for the Woodstock General Hospital and he is a Cabinet member of the Capital Campaign for the Michener Institute.
In 2001 Mr. Tatham was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Software and Information Systems. In 2006 Mr. Tatham was awarded the NAO Distinguished Angel Award by the National Angel Organization for Angel Investors. Mr. Tatham was a 2005-2006 inductee into the National Commission for Co-operative Education Co-op Hall of Fame.
Chief Financial Officer & Senior Vice President, Finance
Errol C. Singer, CFO and Senior Vice President of Finance heads up the Finance department, as well as Investor Relations. He was formerly Chief Financial Officer at Janna Systems Inc. Under Mr. Singer’s financial leadership, Janna Systems became a public company in 1996, listed on the Canadian Dealing Network (CDN) in 1998, and moved to the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE) in late 1999. Following Janna Systems’ acquisition by Siebel Systems Inc. in 2000, Mr. Singer served as Senior Director Canada, Finance at Siebel. As a chartered accountant, Mr. Singer’s earlier roles included Financial Controller at Delrina Corporation and CA positions with Price Waterhouse and Arthur Andersen. Mr. Singer has served on the Board of Directors of Hyd-Mech Group and Axonwave Software Inc.
Chief Technology Officer & Senior Vice President, Technology
David W. Shepherd, Senior Vice President of Technology and Chief Technology Officer at NexJ Systems, is responsible for defining and executing the technology vision of NexJ Systems. Prior to NexJ Systems, he held the positions of Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President, Janna Systems; Vice President, Technology, Siebel Systems; Senior Management Consultant in Advanced Technology, Andersen Consulting; and Strategic Technical Advisor at Triple G Systems Group. Mr. Shepherd brings more than 20 years of technology experience in enterprise CRM leadership to NexJ Systems.
Chief Operating Officer
Chief Operating Officer at NexJ Systems, Richard J. Broley has a successful track record in Enterprise CRM and Corporate Finance. Mr. Broley is responsible for the successful definition, delivery, and execution of NexJ Systems’ corporate strategy. Prior to NexJ, Mr. Broley served as Vice President & General Manager, Institutional Finance and Vice President, Customer Solutions Group at Siebel Systems; Vice President, Professional Services at Janna Systems and Senior Consultant in Andersen Consulting’s Financial Services practice.
Senior Vice President, Sales
John has over 20 years of sales and leadership experience in software technology in both the US and Canadian markets. His experience includes both public and private high growth companies. Prior to NexJ, he was in Silicon Valley with Vignette, where he pioneered one of the most effective and productive channel models delivering 68% of the license revenue. He was also part of the team that led the company through both a successful IPO and secondary offering. John also served in executive leadership roles at SAP America, Pandesic LLC, Revenue Science (formerly digiMine), Corillian (acquired by Checkfree), and TradeBeam.
Vice President, Corporate Development
Vice President of Corporate Development at NexJ Systems, Alex Baluta works closely with the senior management team in crafting the corporate strategy around markets, acquisitions, and capital. Prior to joining NexJ, Alex founded and ran his own consulting and advisory service focused on providing financial, capital market, and strategic business advice to early/mid stage companies in multiple industries. He has direct experience in research, investment banking, and equity sales both in the US and Canada. Alex was a top-ranked technology research analyst with Merrill Lynch and he was the managing director of Robertson Stephens, a technology-focused investment bank in Silicon Valley. Alex has initiated, participated, and advised on numerous investment banking transactions throughout his career as well as aided in the development of several startups and small companies. Prior to embarking on his investment banking career, Alex was a software developer with Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting).
Senior Vice President, Products
As Senior Vice President of Products at NexJ Systems, Paul DeVriendt leads the product management and product marketing teams. Previously, Mr. DeVriendt served as Vice President of Product Management at Janna Systems, responsible for the product design of the industry-leading CRM offering later acquired by Siebel. At Siebel, Mr. DeVriendt served as Senior Director Product Marketing, Financial Services and as such was responsible for the Institutional Finance product design and sales support, in addition to developing and implementing a highly successful Vertical Market business plan.
Tom Predovic, Senior Vice President of Technology at NexJ Systems, is responsible for product management and application development for all of NexJ’s solutions. Mr. Predovic also has responsibility for the delivery of NexJ’s cloud-based solutions. Tom was most recently Group Vice President, CRM Software as a Service at Oracle where, as a senior member of the Oracle CRM Applications business unit, he was responsible for the strategic, technical, and operational engineering efforts behind product development of Oracle CRM SaaS. Prior to joining Oracle in 2006, Tom held the position of Vice President, Engineering at Siebel Systems and was instrumental in the success of Janna Systems where he led the engineering efforts.
Eric Gombrich, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Health Solutions Group was most recently the Chief Executive Officer of EMIS Inc., the North American wholly-owned subsidiary of EMIS (UK), a global leader in Standards-Based Electronic Medical Record (EMR). In this role, Mr. Gombrich grew the user market-base in Alberta and B.C., as well as participated in the national direction of EMR strategy for Canada. Prior to joining EMIS Inc., Mr. Gombrich held several multi-national leadership roles based out of the US and Canada, including at Carefx Corporation, Eclipsys Corporation and Molecular Diagnostics Inc. In addition to his company experience, Mr. Gombrich has served on several Boards in both private and public organizations, and continues to serve on several ITAC Health committees.
